Honoris Causa: UNCUYO honored two renowned scientists
The university awarded its highest distinction to Noemí Elisabet Zaritzky and Aldo Roberto Boccaccini in recognition of their academic scientific merits and their contributions to the fields of food engineering and biomaterials development. The ceremony took place במסגרת the Latin American Congress on Applied Sciences held in San Rafael.
Aldo Roberto Boccaccini earned his degree in Nuclear Engineering at the Balseiro Institute and subsequently conducted postdoctoral research in the United Kingdom at the University of Birmingham (School of Metallurgy and Materials), and in the United States at the University of California, San Diego.
In 2001, he completed his PhD at the Technical University of Ilmenau, Germany, and in 2008 he was appointed Professor of Materials Science and Engineering at Imperial College London (United Kingdom), joining the Department of Materials in 2009.
A native of San Rafael, he maintains strong ties with both the city and UNCUYO. He stands out as an active mentor, serving as supervisor and co-supervisor of doctoral students from UNCUYO, and as a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Applied Sciences to Industry, where he has delivered lectures and talks regularly and in person since 2006.
He is also the Scientific Coordinator of the Network of Argentine Scientists in Germany, which works closely with the Secretariat of Innovation, Science and Technology under the Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers of the National Executive Branch, to guide, connect, and support Argentine students and researchers undertaking stays in Germany.
Among the distinctions he has received are honorary doctorates (Doctor Honoris Causa) from Åbo Akademi University (Turku, Finland) and from UIC University (Barcelona, Spain). He is also listed in the report “The World’s Most Influential Scientific Minds.”
