Research stay of Mirian Bonifacio, UNIFESP, Brazil

Mirian Bonifacio, a Ph.D. student in Bioproducts and Bioprocesses at the Department of Biosciences, Universidade Federal de São Paulo – Baixada Santista (UNIFESP), Brazil, is currently undertaking a research stay at the Institute for Research in Science and Technology of Materials (INTEMA). Her work focuses on incorporating terpene extracts with anti-inflammatory properties into electrospun fibers, under the supervision of Drs. Guadalupe Rivero and Julieta Merlo. This collaboration aims to develop new bioactive materials with potential biomedical applications, particularly in tissue regeneration and inflammation control.

Mirian is pursuing her doctoral thesis entitled “Study of the anti-inflammatory properties of bioactive compounds extracted from the sponge Dysidea robusta for the treatment of osteoarthritis: in vitro and in vivo study”, supervised by Prof. Dr. Ana Cláudia Muniz Rennó and co-supervised by Prof. Dr. Cintia Cristina Santi Martignago. Her research integrates marine biotechnology and biomaterials engineering to explore natural compounds for therapeutic use.
