Chagas Freeblock Biorepellent
Dr. Pablo Cortez Tornello, Bioengineer Ana Laura Suárez Segura, Engineer Agustín Martínez Cebada, and Dr. Gustavo Abraham, members of the Biomedical Polymers area at INTEMA, in collaboration with the National University of San Juan (UNSJ), represented by Dr. Sandra López, Lic. Belén Ariza Sampietro, and Dr. Alejandro Tapia, have been awarded funding of 5 million pesos to complete the development of a natural biorepellent.
The project aims to advance the formulation of the Chagas FreeBlock prototype, based on polymeric tablets and particles for the controlled release of essential oils extracted from native plants. This innovation seeks to contribute to the prevention of Chagas disease, with a sustainable approach and high social impact.
The initiative had already been recognized in the Startup Innovation Contest of the “Innovation with Impact” Program of the Secretariat of Science, Technology, and Innovation of San Juan, and can now move forward to the next stages: field trials, patenting, and sanitary registration.
With this new support, INTEMA and UNSJ strengthen their joint efforts in the development of innovative biotechnological solutions addressing issues of social and public health relevance.
